Children’s Autumn Holiday Programme

Join us for an exciting variety of workshops in our Children’s Autumn Holiday Programme at the Centre for Art Education this Autumn School Holiday Season.

Children between the ages of 6 and 12 will be encouraged to explore a range of different wet and dry mediums. These will include painting, drawing, collage, 3-D construction, drawing and print-making. Children will explore the creative possibilities of various materials in a creative, nurturing and child-friendly space where they will learn about the museum, selected displayed artworks and the history of the Silo District and Cape Town Harbour.

The workshops will take place from 18 – 29 March 2019 (see programme details below). RSVP is essential. Click here to book your place now.

Guardians/parents with Zeitz MOCAA Membership can participate in the workshops for free. Normal admission rates (R190/adult) apply for non-member guardians/parents. Purchase your annual membership which includes a year’s unlimited access to the museum and other public programmes at only R270 here.

Guardians/parents are requested to drop off their children in the Centre for Art Education on level -1, where they will be registered for the workshop. Please do not leave your children unaccompanied in the reception area.

All materials are provided. Children must please wear clothes that can get dirty or bring along an apron.
Workshops groups: For children age 6 – 8 (max. 20 children) and for children age 9 – 12 (max. 25 children).

“City Building” – 3D construction
Working with 3D l construction mediums and techniques children will create architectural maquettes and then design and draw the city environments in which these can exist.

“Paper Procession”/Africa Wednesday OPEN STUDIO – Collage
Inspired by the work of South Africa artist, William Kentridge, children will create a paper collage that explores Human Rights themes and collaboration.

“Imaginary Worlds” – Mixed Media construction
Inspired by the intricate work of Ghanaian artist, El Anatsui.

“Origami” – Paper folding
Experience the Japanese Art of Paper folding inspired by animals in art.

“Astronauts and other Space beings” – Painting and mixed  media
Create a cosmos using ink and wash and populate your universe with collaged space travellers. Inspired by Yinka Shonibare CBE.

Time travel and space machines” – 3D construction
Create fantastic space and time machines using a variety of media, inspired by Afro-Futurist themes in the exhibition, Still here tomorrow to high five you yesterday.

“Cosmic Monoprints” – Mono-printing
Inspired by images of outer space and Afro-Futurist themes in the exhibition, Still here tomorrow to high five you yesterday, create your own universe using a variety of mono-printing techniques.

“African Mandalas” – Clay
Inspired by various textile traditions and patterns from parts of Africa, clay objects will be joined into a group mandala using a variety of relief techniques.

Inside the Waterfront

From the Clock Tower, it’s a 3–5-minute walk to the Silo District. From Battery Park, 5-7 minutes along the canal. Look for the concrete silo with the glass rooftop – that’s Zeitz MOCAA.

From the Freeway

Follow signs to V&A Waterfront via the N1/N2. Enter Dock Road to the Silo District. Zeitz MOCAA is the historic grain silo on Silo Square. Parking: Silo 1 or 2 or at Battery Park.

From the Suburbs

From M3/M5, head to the V&A Waterfront. Enter via Dock Road and continue to the silo District. Find us on Silo Square in the grain silo building. Parking nearby at Silo District or Battery Park.

Parking

Secure parking is available at the V&A Waterfront Silo District Parking Garage (P3). Direct access to the museum is available from the garage.
