MOCAA Art Club (M A C)

Applications are now open for the 2023 MOCAA Art Club (M A C) cohort aimed at high school students from grades 9 through 11, aged 14 to 17 years. Teenagers are invited to apply for the programme, which begins in February, where they will enjoy a collaborative space to connect with each other and think and learn about art. Students from low- and no-fee schools in Cape Town, as well as those who are already on a full bursary, and who show a keen interest in art are encouraged to apply for a M A C bursary.

With a focus on discussion and critical thinking, M A C 2023 invites its members to engage with both art in the studio and exhibition spaces. The 16 sessions, including orientation, will act as the catalyst for conceptual development and creation and result in an exhibition curated and installed by the learners. Clubs will take place on two Saturdays each month, from 11 February to 28 October 2023.

Applications must include a one-page typed/written motivation letter explaining ‘Why I want to be part of MOCAA Art Club’ and a portfolio consisting of:

  • A4 to A3 artwork inspired by an artist from Africa
  • A5 observational drawing of an object that represents Africa today with a short caption for the drawing that explains why the object was chosen
  • Any artwork in any medium produced in the last six months and no larger than A1

The application deadline has been extended to Monday, 23 January 2023. Application forms can be submitted in-person or via email to artclub@zeitzmocaa.museum and are available here.
